Geological/Environment

Environment:

Tahiti didn't have much plant and animal life. Tahiti has 700 species of bug and 120 bird species. Comparing to Australia, that not that much. With the US, that still not that much. When the first European arrived to Tahiti, new animals arrive as well. Animals like Wild Horses, dog and pig were introduce to Tahiti. Also, man started eating some of the animals on this island.

Animals like the coconut crab will be extinct because of man eating them.

Most of the wild horses in Tahiti run around like any other horse would do.

Geological

Tahiti was created by a underwater volcano or a hots spot. After a 1.4 Million years, Tahiti was form with its mountain Mt. Orohena. Tahiti was on the Pacific plate.

Animals:

Some of the animals include many bird species, wild horses, aquatic animals, and terrestrial crabs.

This coconut crab, belonging to the terrestrial arthropod family, can climb up coconut trees and get a coconuts out to the tree. Then they cut the coconut open and eat it. They are the biggest land crab on this planet.

Most of bird species on Tahiti are seabird. Bird like the Murphy's Petrel or the Tahiti Kingfisher or the Pacific Swallow

This is one fish,Javanese moray eels, you can find in the waters of Tahiti. Other fish you can find are black-tips and lemon shark and many other fish.

When the first Europeans arrived, wild horses and other mammals came to Tahiti.

Natural Selection:

The coconut crab is in the hermit crab family, but only one differences to all the rest of them. When this crab become an adult, I doesn't need a shell. Some hermit crab have lung, instead of gills because they evolved to live on land.

Plants:

Some plants on Tahiti include Polynesian Vanilla, Coconut Trees, and Flamingo Flowers.

This is a Vanilla Flower in full Bloom. Vanilla was ordinarily from Central America and was introduced in 1848. This plant is actually a creeper from the orchid family.

Coconut trees was one of the first plants that the first immigrants brought to Tahiti. The coconut are one source of water or what we call now coconut milk.

The Flamingo Flower and some others flowers were used for when you are a mother or grandmother when you live in Tahiti.
